The guava tree is a shorter, well branched tree. It is easy to recognize because of its smooth, thin, copper-colored bark that flakes off, showing the greenish layer beneath. It produces small fragrant white flowers and it's leaves can be used to make herbal teas. The guava fruit exudes a strong, sweet, musky odor when ripe. They are round, 2 to 4 inches long, with light-yellow green skin, frequently blushed with pink. Guava fruits are amazingly rich in antioxidants, vitamin C, potassium, and fiber.
These trees are a tropical plant and are susceptible to freezing temperatures. They will need to be kept in a greenhouse or sunroom for locations where the temperature may drop below freezing for extended periods of time.
